Japanese mobile music sales double 2007 totals

Japanese mobile music sales double 2007 totals
Digital music sales are surging in Japan, with the Recording Industry of Japan reporting mobile and online revenues grew 128 percent during the first half of 2008. According to the RIAJ, consumers downloaded 20.3 million singles, albums and music videos during the first six months of the year, up 143 percent in unit volume year-over-year and generating $39.5 million in revenue. Mobile sales (i.e., ringtones, ringbacks and full-track downloads) ballooned to 219.5 million units, more than double 2007 totals. Of course, the digital gains are offset by a decline in physical product revenues–the RIAJ reports sales of CDs were off 6 percent. Hollywood launches Open Market play-anywhere plan
Hollywood studios including Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Time Warner are reportedly joining retailers including Amazon, Target and WalMart to launch Open Market, an initiative to install the policies, software and services necessary to enable interoperability between various digital media formats, devices and DRM schemes. According to TechCrunch , Open Market heralds a renewed effort by the major studios to jump start adoption of digital movie sales and eliminate the format fragmentation blamed as the culprit behind sluggish sales. The initiative, first proposed by Sony Pictures, would allow play-anywhere functionality by authorizing a neutral third party to manage device registrations and movie purchases/rentals, effectively ensuring interoperability across PCs, televisions, mobile handsets and other media-enabled devices. Conspicuously absent from the Open Market effort: Apple and The Walt Disney Company. Bringing Hi-Fi to the 21st century, It might not be what you think
As we left the 20th century, you might remember us going gaga over CD’s, MP3’s coming our way and the LP slowly looking like it was going to disappear. However, today I am still buying and playing new LP’s and I am still scratching my head looking into the digital future wondering if there […]

What is the All Cuts Budget California Republican Legislators Are Proposing?

In this week’s Democratic weekly radio address, Assemblymembers Curren Price and Felipe Fuentes explain why Republican legislators need to put forth constructive budget measures so a budget can be completed soon. They highlight the expectations of the minority party under California’s two-thirds budget vote requirement.

You may listen in English or Spanish. The transcript follows.

Crren-Price.jpgHello, this is Assemblymember Curren Price.

California’s Assembly Democrats are still working hard to protect California’s most vulnerable citizens from an all-cuts budget Republicans say they want but won’t reveal.

Filling our state’s $15 billion budget gap requires sacrifice and cooperation.

So Legislative Democrats have proposed mixing new revenues with more tough spending cuts on top of those adopted earlier this year.

And we’re continuing to work on additional budget solutions with Governor Schwarzenegger.

But when it comes to legislative Republicans, well, you can’t compromise with nothing.

And nothing is exactly what they’ve put on the table.

Although they refuse to raise any new revenues, they have yet to reveal where they want to make $15 billion in cuts.

Meanwhile, funding for our schools and hospitals continues to dry up, and needed protections for consumers and the disabled are being relaxed.

Californians need to understand that our rare two-thirds budget vote is difficult to achieve – we are the only state that requires two-thirds AND allows the governor to cut what he doesn’t like.

When Californians realize that, they get outraged when they see a minority party they trusted to come to the negotiating table in good faith, instead holding them hostage.

Assembly Republicans voted down the balanced budget taken up last Sunday, but that won’t be the last weekend your representatives in Sacramento will be working.

This weekend Assembly Democrats continue to stand ready to make compromises with legislative Republicans once they put forward their budget proposals.

Let legislative Republicans know: California deserves to have a reliable budget signed, sealed and delivered.

This has been Assemblymember Curren Price, thank you for listening.

Synchronize MP3 Players & Phones With iTunes Using iTunes Agent
I currently use MediaMonkey to manage my music collection as personally I think it’s a better mp3 player than iTunes, with better tag, library, playlist and all round sexiness than iTunes. However, there are many who disagree and prefer to use iTunes. If you are one of those, but want to sync another device like […]
